UPDATE: 2:30PM by Geoff Redick
One town of Batavia resident is dead, and two more are injured today after a violent head-on collision on Route 5.
It happened just after 9:00am in the Town of Batavia. 21-year-old Levert Kimble, and his passenger, 19-year-old Dolores Opuku-Boateng, were apparently headed east on Route 5 when Kimble lost control of his Honda sedan – and crossed into the path of an oncoming SUV.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy, Gordon Dibble, explains what happened next.
"For whatever reason, it appears at this early point in the investigation, that the Honda went over into the westbound lane - where they struck head on," Dibble explains. "At this point, we have one fatality from the silver Honda."
Dolores Opuku-Boateng was fatally injured in the crash. She was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Kimble, was transported to Erie County Medical Center with serious injuries.
